Henri Methorst Award

The Henri Methorst Award is named after the founder of Congrestolken: Mr Henri W. Methorst. The Congrestolken Cooperative regularly awards a sum of money to an institution, organisation or person who has achieved special merit in multi-lingual or cultural endeavours.

In September 2001 the award was presented for the first time. The recipient was the Nederlandse Bond van Tolken Gebarentaal (Dutch league of sign language interpreters). The next prize was awarded for English language and writing instruction to children at an orphanage in Soweto. VluchtelingenWerk Amsterdam has also received the Henri Methorst Award to set up an NT2 media centre, enabling refugees to study Dutch independently and at their own pace.
